Global-NanoMaPPP
Global PPP for the Integrated Measurement and Testing of Representative NanoMaterials in support of the OECD WPMN Sponsorship Programme
The Global-NanoMaPPP is a public-private partnership (PPP) that addresses safety of nanomaterials in a transparent, trustful and coherent collaboration between industry, public authorities, scientists and other stakeholders:
- It forms a joint initiative to regulatory compliance on the responsible, sustainable development of nanomaterials, with the view to fostering innovation through safe commercialisation of nanomaterials and products containing nanomaterials.
- It builds on the concept of NM-Series of Representative Manufactured Nanomaterials (RMNs), which serve as internationally accepted performance standards and will contribute to further broaden the NM series' scope in the NM applicability domain by adding selected new nanomaterials to the NM-Series standards.
- It collaborates in development of reference dossiers of data/information for these new NM series standards. It will collect existing data including cross-referencing to the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials (WPMN). It will fill identified gaps by generating new data by measurement and testing. The selected NMs and reference dossiers will be complementary and coherent with the ongoing programme at the OECD WPMN to further strengthen the impact and importance of the overall international collaborations by:
- Coherent selection of RMN to address the extended applicability domain, e.g. not sponsored so far,
- Coherent NM preparation, measurement and testing schemes, based on NM-Series RMNs,
- Coherent preparation of reference dossiers for NM including NM database dossiers in the NANOhub database (installation: 'OECD-NanoMaPPP'), and
- Continuing input into the OECD Sponsorship Programme with specific view to gathering learning and understanding from Phase 1, and making recommendations and setting implementations for Phase 2, based on scientific experiences with RMNs.
It is co-financed by industry and public funding.
The Global-NanoMaPPP started on the 1st July 2011; it will initially run for 24 months, with a view to an extension of the project into Phase 2 of the OECD WPMN Sponsorship Programme.
