The EC has published a summary of the opinion on the use of titanium dioxide in sunscreens that ‘can be easily understood by non-specialists’. It is a summary of an opinion that was produced by the SCCS in July 2013
Danish Nano Product Register Order comes into Effect Today
The Danish Ministry of the Environment has signaled that the country’s order on the register of mixtures and products containing nanomaterials come into effect today. The first reporting to the nano-product register has to be carried out by 30 August 2015, for the period between 20 June 2014 and 20 June 2015

First Nanomaterial approved for use as Active Substance in European Biocidal Products
The EC has officially approved synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide for use as an active substance in biocidal products for product-type 18 through Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 408/2014. It comes into force today following the publication of the decree in the Official Journal of the European Union on 23 April 2014

BASF Research suggests Nanomaterials could be grouped according to Safety Assessment Results
Researchers from BASF recently carried out a short-term inhalation study on 13 metal oxide nanomaterials, and as a result grouped them on the basis of their toxicological potential. In their conclusion the team suggested that forms of grouping based on the results of safety assessments, ‘might be more relevant in predicting nanomaterial effects'
