Concluding comments:

Philippe Martin (DG SANCO) highlighted the main conclusions of the day:
  • question of agglomerates/aggregates is an issue and is being reviewed (current work: TiO2 under SCCS)
  • it is regarded importance to network between risk assessors (incl. Member States, OECD Members, International (incl. US), etc.) (cf. 1st member states risk assessors meeting: 17th March 2009; 2nd Meeting planned to coincide with the 3rd Nanotechnology ‘Safety of Success’-Dialogue (3rd & 4th November 2009)
  • risk assessors are beginning to understand the methodologies, but more work is needed on in-vitro methods

The European Commission DG Health and Consumer (DG SANCO) has published the submissions to its Public Consultation in preparation of a Scientific Hearing on Risk Assessment of Nanotechnologies. (23rd July 2009)

1st & 2nd Steering Committee meeting of the 3rd ‘Nanotechnology Safety for Success’-Dialogue Workshop (24th June 2009) 

The EC has published the Minutes of the most recent meeting of its Scientific on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR), during its 27th plenary meeting, held on the 26th November 2008, SCENIHR concluded that the 2nd Dialogue on Nanotechnology – Safety for Success, held in Brussels in October 2008, ‘was considered a useful and informative initiative in particular for establishing a regular dialogue with different stakeholders. [...] The launch of a network on risk assessment on nanomaterials was foreseen as a result of this meeting to exchange and pool information.’ (23rd January 2009)
