This memorandum outlines the differences between the two House and Senate bills that would reauthorize and amend the 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act. Senator John Kerry (D-MA) introduced legislation (S. 1482) in the Senate on July 21, 2009. The House bill (H.R. 554) was passed in the House and referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in February 2009. While each is entitled “National Nanotechnology Initiative Amendments Act of 2009’’ and has similar provisions, some differences exist. [...]

On January 15, 2009, the Chair of the US House Science and Technology Committee, Representative Bart Gordon (D-TN), introduced the National Nanotechnology Initiative Amendments Act of 2009 (H.R. 554), which is identical to H.R. 5940, which passed the 110th Congress by a vote of 407 to 6.
