The Nanotechnology Industries Association’s (NIA) Guillaume Flament recently summarised some of the findings from NIA’s report Closing the Gap: The Impact of Nanotechnologies on the global Divide for the magazine International Innovation. Featured on pages 43-45 of Issue 136, Mr Flament leads readers through the discussions on ‘whether nanotechnologies will serve to widen or shrink the global rich-poor divide’.
In the article Mr Flament explains what the rich-poor divide is, and how nanotechnologies could impact upon it. He explains that new possibilities are offered but that there are barriers to progress in providing potentially beneficial applications, before explains the role that the developing world could have in realising this potential. This is seen as being key to maximising the benefits of the technology and minimising potential drawbacks.
