This month’s newsletter published by the Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has announced the first meeting of its nanotechnology experts. On 9 July 2007 the Director of the NIA will join other representatives of BIAC’s expert Nanotechnology Network at a meeting in Washington D.C. in order to discuss strategic issues, including overall priorities, key messages, membership issues and coordination with other policy groups.
BIAC’s expert Nanotechnology Network has grown to over 50 active members within one year. This network has direct input into both the OECD Working Parties on Nanotechnology (WPN): (a) the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials (WPMN), which was created last year in order to assist countries in developing tools to better address the safety aspects of manufactured nanomaterials, and (b) the working party that will be created by the OECD Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP), as decided on 26 March 2007.
