U.S. Food and Drug Administration Publishes Guidance on Nanomaterials in Feed

This month, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued final guidance on nanomaterial applications in animal feed in a publication, Use of Nanomaterials in Food for Animals. The document provides essential guidance that can help stakeholders identify and address any safety or regulatory challenges before taking a product to market. The guidance, however, is non-binding and reflects the "current thinking"of the agency as it continues to assess the use of nanomaterials in animal feed.

The document comes approximately a year after the FDA issued final guidance on nanomaterial use in cosmetics and foods, as well as how to assess whether a product uses nanotechnology.
