A World Trade Organization (WTO) notification has revealed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is to create regulations for cosmetics and personal care products. Reports indicate that the draft regulation ‘[...] contains a requirement for companies to label cosmetic products containing nanomaterials’.
According to the report, ‘[...] the requirement is similar to the one found in the EU Cosmetics Regulation [...]’. Medical products and devices and biocidal products used in the ingredients will be ‘excluded from the application of the provisions of this regulation’.
The notification was made by the UAE Authority for Standardization and Metrology. It is as yet unclear as to when the regulation would be adopted and come into force.
