Minutes from the 28th meeting of the Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products Working Group (WG) have been released. They reveal that the European Commission (EC) has requested that the group provide criteria to 'identify nanomaterials of concern', and that the WG is now looking at carbon black as well as titanium dioxide and S79.
The request for information relates to the identification of 'nanomaterials of concern notified under Article 16 of the Cosmetic Regulation'. A new mandate has also appeared for carbon black.
A draft opinion on S79 'is foreseen to be presented for...possible adoption at the SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) plenary of February'. Furthermore the committee invited industry representatives to discuss 'a request for further information on specific issues' related to the committee's nanoscale titanium dioxide dossier.
The next meeting of the group will place on 18 Feb 2013.
