The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently published a document detailing the results of the sixth annual meeting of the International Cooperation on Cosmetic Regulation (ICCR-6). The report, entitled International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR): Outcomes of the Meeting Held July 10-13, 2012, states that discussion amongst the multinational delegation focused on, among other things, nanomaterials.
According to the meeting notes, attendees 'agreed that ... [they] will continue to consider additional issues pertinent to the characterization and safety of nanomaterials'. In the meantime, however, the ICCR will release two documents: Characterisation of Nanomaterials II-Insolubility, Biopersistence and Size Measurement in Complex Media; and Safety Approaches to Nanomaterials in Cosmetics.
The next meeting of the ICCR is set to be held in Japan in 2013.
