EC asks for Expert Input into safety Assessment of Nanomaterials in Cosmetics

The European Commission (EC) has announced that it is looking for 'experts in nanotechnology in relation to the safety assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetic products' to work with its Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). The call has been made so that the EC can ensure it will meet the 'expected demand' for such assessments in due time.

The SCCS is looking for experts 'with good knowledge in relation to nanomaterials, and in particular those used in cosmetic products'; of particular interest are those individuals who can demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Characterisation
  • Chemistry
  • Systemic toxicity
  • Genotoxicity
  • Human exposure (including inhalation)
  • In vitro and alternative methods
  • Risk assessment for human health

Experts who feel they satisfy these criteria are invited to register their interest by the 15 October 2012.
