US EPA publishes scientific evidence on carbon nanotube inhalation studies
BASF Corporation submitted to the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) (under Section 8(e) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)) results of ‘A Subchronic Inhalation Study in Wistar Rats with Carbon Nano Tube’.
The study finds ‘No Observed Effect’ below 0.1 mg/m3.
According to Nanotechnology Law Blog, two months after receiving BASF’s submission, EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) sent a reply letter to the TSCA 8(e) submitter, which states ‘that it conducts preliminary screens of all Section 8(e) submissions and routinely requests additional information from submitters to complete these preliminary screens or to evaluate submissions further.’ EPA furthermore requested the complete report from BASF.
