Putin appoints head of Nanotechnology State Corporation

Russian Government officials confirmed that President Vladimir Putin has appointed the former head of telecoms giant MTS to lead a new state corporation in nanotechnology. Earlier this year, Putin had announced that the corporation would be funded with US$ 5.0 billion, an unprecedented amount of funding for cashstrapped Russian science establishment and comparable with funding in the European Union and the United States.
'The president has written an order under which Leonid Melamed will be director of the corporation,' First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a government meeting.
