Nanotechnology Jobs & Careers: NIA Policy Consultant

The Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA) is seeking to appoint a Policy Consultant to support the NIA’s expert team in the conduct of sector-independent representation of the nanotechnology industries.
The Policy Consultant will:
- provide proactive input to the NIA’s daily work in legislative and regulatory policy considerations and reforms, through the scoping of arising issues and independent development of problem solving strategies,
- regularly identify and compose ‘issues alerts’ and news items, as well as position papers and reports,
- participate in meetings with various nanotechnology stakeholders, including NGOs, consumer associations, policy-making and –informing bodies, as well as national and federal governments, and
- represent the nanotechnology industries in open fora with integrity and confidence.
The Policy Consultant will specifically be expected to support the NIA’s role within the following two projects, through integral, individual work with nanotechnology companies on the development and representation of case studies and safety dossiers, as well as through technical support of project websites, WIKI platforms and databases: (a) REACH Implementation Plans on Nanomaterials (RIP-oNs):'Scientific and technical Support on Nanomaterials' , and (b) NANEX - Development of Exposure Scenarios for Manufactured Nanomaterials.
Candidates are required to:
- have a BSc (minimum Upper Second Class division) in a physical science, life science, or engineering discipline
- have good experience in the writing (in English) of policy texts, position papers, newsletters, issues alerts, etc.
- have experience in project management
- have good experience in the reading of legal texts
- understand and handle confidentiality issues
- be able to communicate with confidence at senior management / government / administration level
- be confident in public representation
- have good experience in the maintenance and updating of websites and databases
