Published: Tuesday 4 August 2009
The European Commission DG Health and Consumer (DG SANCO) has announced the 3rdAnnual Nanotechnology ‘Safety for Success’-Dialogue: Building Trust in Nanotechnologies, to be held on the 3rd and 4th November 2009 in Brussels, Belgium.
This year’s event will focus on the examination of Four Case Studies of nanomaterials, used in consumer products:
- TiO2 in sunscreens/cosmetics
- Nanoparticles in paint
- Carbon nanotubes
- Nanosilver in textiles
Each case study will aim at answering the following six questions:
- Q1: Why is the product called/labelled “nano"?
- Q2: What is the information about its availability on the market?
- Q3: What are the regulatory requirements that govern its existence on the market?
- Q4: What kind of safety testing is being performed?
- Q5: What are the expected benefits and risks (consumer, manufacturer, and environment)?
- Q6: What is the involvement of stakeholders and citizens' groups
