European Commission calls for scientific experts
The European Commission published the pre-announcement of a call of expert to join its Scientific Risk Assessment Advisory Structure of its Scientific Committees, Pool of Advisors, and Database of Experts. (29th August 2008)
EC Committee opinion strengthened by new information on carbon nanotubes
During the last meeting of the EC’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (Plenary meeting, held on the 21st May 2008), the committee ‘was informed about the publication of a scientific paper on Carbon nanotubes and asbestos-like pathogenicity and has been asked by the Commission to provide a statement regarding this study.’ ( 27th June 2008)
European expert committee publishes Opinion on Safety of Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products
The European Commission’s expert Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) published their Opinion on Safety of Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products, adopted by the SCCP during the 14th plenary meeting on 18 December 2007. (3rd March 2008)
In June 2007, the Nanotechnology Industries Association contributed to a public consultation on the ‘Preliminary Opinion on the Safety of Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products’; at the time, the NIA’s response to the SCCP’s preliminary opinion highlighted the inconsistency with an opinion previously published by the EC’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR).
The European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) published its Opinion on The scientific aspects of the existing and proposed definitions relating to products of nanoscience and nanotechnologies, adopted by the SCENIHR during the 21st plenary meeting of on 29th November 2007. (1st February 2008)
SCENIHR concludes consultation and adopts final opinion
The EC’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks today published its Opinion on ‘The appropriateness of the risk assessment methodology in accordance with the Technical Guidance Documents for new and existing substances for assessing the risks of nanomaterials’, adopted by the SCENIHR during the 19th plenary meeting of 21-22 June 2007.
