Corporate Responsibility groups predict increased shareholder resolutions on nanomaterial issues

Published: Thursday 15 January 2009

According to an article published by the Meridian Institute, The Bureau of National Affairs' (BNA) Daily Environment Report released an article predicting an expected increase in shareholder resolutions urging disclosure of nanomaterials; this outlook was provided by an official with a corporate responsibility advocacy group in conversation with BNA.

Meridian’s coverage of the article quotes that socially responsible investment firms and advocacy organizations are targeting such companies, and resolutions have been filed for the 2009 annual meetings of Avon Products, Kellogg Company, Kraft Foods, and McDonald's Corporation. T he resolutions generally request that the company publish a report detailing its use of nanomaterials in its products and its overall policy on nanomaterials.’

‘It's really important that companies think long and hard about if and how they're going to be involved with nanomaterials, especially since the health and environmental impacts of nanomaterials have scarcely been explored,’ explained Rich Liroff, executive director of the Investor Environmental Health Network.
