Joint CASG-Nano and ENPRA Workshop
Venue: European Commision 'Joint Research Centre', Ispra, Italy
Starts: Wednesday 14 April 2010, 00:00
Ends: Thursday 15 April 2010, 00:00
Registered NIA Members are invited to attend the ‘Joint CASG-Nano and ENPRA Workshop on Early Harvest of Research Results on Nanosafety’ (to be held on the 14th and 15th April 2010 at the JRC in Ispra, Italy).
*** Delegate places are limited; please register ASAP, by sending an e-mail to steffi.friedrichs@nanotechia.org. ***
This is an extended invite to join the European Commission’s (DG RTD) ‘Industry Colloquium on NanoSafety Research & Management’ [2](‘Strategic NanoSafety Group’) at its next scheduled meeting in the form of a ‘Research Information’-workshop, in order to:
- drive the consolidation of research efforts on regulatory relevant projects
- provide a platform for the setting of a new action plan for the future collaboration between ‘Strategic and Operational NanoSafety Groups in Europe’ [3]
- meet representatives of the REACH CASG-Nano (Competent Authorities Subgroup on Nanomaterials), who are currently reviewing drafts of ECHA (REACH) Guidelines on ‘Nanomaterials’ (cf. REACH Implementation Plans on Nanomaterials (RIP-oNs))[4]
A short Industry Colloquium Meeting (‘Strategic NanoSafety Group’) itself will be held in the afternoon of the 14th April; the meeting will deciding upon the next steps to shape and support provide the future NanoSafety Research Agenda.
On the 15th April, the REACH Implementation Plan Projects RIP-oN 2 and RIP-oN 3 will hold a case-studies workshop.
*** In order to find out more about the Joint CASG-Nano and ENPRA Workshop (draft agenda available upon request), or to register for the meeting, send an e-mail to steffi.friedrichs@nanotechia.org. Delegate places are limited; please register ASAP. ***
[2] The Industry Colloquium on NanoSafety (Research) & Management was established by the European Commission DG RTD in June 2009, in order to provide strategic direction to the NanoSafety Research Agenda; it has created a draft operation plan which includes: (a) a One-Stop-Shop for industries' advice and contribution (b) a framework for progress monitoring and prioritisation. The NIA has started to provide secretarial support to the ‘Industry Colloquium’; find out more about the ‘Industry Colloquium’ by following the link to ‘Meeting Reports’ in the 'Members only'-area on the NIA website:

[3] Background (excerpts from Meeting Notes of former ‘Industry Colloquium’ meetings):
· ‘An industry group should be established to coordinate (industrial contributions to) nanosafety research with regulatory requirements on the basis of a 5-year roadmap/strategy. The industry group should be a ‘one stop shop’-forum, which shapes the nanosafety research landscape on the Europea[n] level and can meet with all relevant DGs (i.e. RTD, SANCO, ENVI, ENT, JRC, RELEX, etc.).’ (EC, Place Madou, 1210 Brussels 25th June 2009)
· ‘It was agreed that the Industry Colloquium would form a ‘Strategic NanoSafety Group’ = ‘Industrial NanoSafety Strategy Group’ (this could consists of the entire Industry Colloquium or a sub-group thereof), which would form a building block of NANOfutures. This group would work closely together with the ‘Operational NanoSafety Group’ = ‘NanoSafety Research Group’ [...].’ (EC, Rue Guimard 10, 1049 Brussels, 10th November 2009)
