Global Representation
NIA Members are represented on a number of global fora and committees:
Policy & Regulation:
The NIA provides the Vice-Chair to the BIAC (Business and Industry Advisory Committee) Nanotechnology Committee.
The NIA is a lead-representative of BIAC at the OECD WPMN (Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials), as well as the OECD WPN (Working Party on Nanotechnology).
Standards & Norms:
The NIA is an expert participant in the ISO/TC 229 (International Organisation for Standardization / Technical Committee on Nanotechnologies).
The NIA is a liaison member of CEN/TC 352 (European Committee for Standardization / Technical Committee on Nanotechnologies), as well as a full member of the BSI NTI/1 (British Standards Institution committee on Nanotechnologies).
NIA Committees
Nanotechnologies are emerging technologies that provide product and process innovations in existing markets and help to establish entirely new markets, but there will never be a single market for nanotechnologies, or indeed, one encompassing all nanotechnology-enabled products and processes.
Established in a niche area between existing market-sector-oriented trade and industries associations, product- and application-derived regulatory organisations, individual companies and stakeholders, the NIA operates through a number of permanent committees, which have been established to work with partnering trade and industry associations, governments and other stakeholders.
